Flick Announces $1.5 Million for Susquehanna River Walk

HARRISBURG – Rep. Jamie Flick (R-Lycoming/Union) announced more than $1 million in grant funding has been secured for the Susquehanna River Walk.

The trail received $1.5 million through the Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside (TASA) of the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) Surface Block Grant Program.

“Outdoor recreation is one of our region’s greatest assets,” Flick said. “It brings people together, supports healthy lifestyles and strengthens the connection residents and visitors have with our community. This funding will help us continue improving access to the Susquehanna River Walk and ensure the trail remains a safe, enjoyable space for everyone who uses it.”

The grant money will be used to improve pedestrian and bike safety and create new recreation opportunities. It will support a 1.7 mile extension of the Susquehanna River Walk from the existing River Walk at Maynard Street to the Lycoming Creek Bikeway near West Third Street. The project will add features including new fencing, bollards, a pedestrian bridge, upgraded railroad crossings, ADA accessible ramps, raised walkways, updated signage, benches and landscaping.

“I’ve helped secure millions of dollars in funding to expand the Susquehanna River Walk and its trail extensions in the past and I’m excited to keep moving this project forward so the River Walk can serve even more residents and visitors,” Flick said.
